My husband is a very thoughtful, sensitive man and I love him dearly. Back in our dating days, he pulled out all the stops to "woo" me. And, I must admit, he was a good wooer! He would constantly surprise me with cards in the mail, flowers on any given day, romantic dates that were planned from the moment he picked me up, beautiful poems that he wrote himself, and so much more! Needless to say, he won my heart! I was overwhelmed with the amount of time and energy he put into our relationship. Never did I doubt his love for me.
We've been married for 5 years now and with all that God has blessed us with over the last few years, which include jobs, precious children, and other commitments, the level of wooing has come down a notch. OK, maybe it's come down a few notches....our idea of dinner and a movie now consists of frozen pizza and Saved By The Bell reruns. For a while, we kept our romantic life on the back burner, but now it's probably not even on the stove! We are both guilty of not putting as much effort into that area of our relationship as we should.
As we look ahead to the first of the 6 Big Essentials to every marriage, Nurturing Romance, I'd like for us all to think about how much time and energy we put into wooing our spouses. And it's not just the husband's job, ladies!! Do we still surprise each other with thoughtful notes or romantic evenings together? There's an old saying that what you put into a marriage is what you get out of it. How much of what we are putting into our marriage is nurturing romance? Join us Saturday, March 13 at 7 PM in the Parkwood Baptist Atrium for a relaxed, fun time with other married couples as we look to revive the woo.
